On the Park is a mixed-used redevelopment in Ballard, one of Seattle’s emerging “Town Center” neighborhoods. The complex contains 268 apartments, a 45,000 sf regional grocery store, and a café space. The project elegantly addressed a number of challenges, including building a 10,000 sf pocket park three stories above the ground atop the grocery store, creating an enjoyable and safe streetscape environment, and seamlessly integrating a series of two-story townhouses into the adjacent Ballard Commons, the community's central park.
The rooftop micro-park sits outside a 5,700 sf private club, where it opens the surrounding seven floors of flats to sun and remarkable waterfront and mountain views. The courtyard includes an outdoor kitchen and dining pavilion, custom spa, robust extensive greenroof planting areas, custom steel and cedar pergola structures, commissioned artwork, numerous residential terraces, and a variety of outdoor lighting features. Andy Fox served as the project landscape architect for On the Park while working with Windrose Landscape Architecture in Seattle, Washington.
